Welcome to the latest edition of the Greyhound Household’s customer newsletter!
Extra Recycling After Christmas 2016
We are happy to be able to lend a helping hand this year by providing an Extra Christmas Collection for recycling materials.
We know that at this time of the year, our customers tend to produce more recyclable materials, what with all of the gift packaging and wrapping paper!
To ease the pressure a bit (and as a little post Christmas gift) we will pick up your additional green bin material with your first green bin collection after Christmas Day.
All you have to do is put your clean and dry recyclables into a clear plastic bag.
Then just leave it beside your green bin on your designated collection day.
We will then collect the bag when we are emptying your bin!
For more information on what goes into your green bin, click here.
Greyhound would like to wish all of our customers a very Happy Christmas.

Wheelie Bin Fires in Association With Dublin Fire Brigade
Wheelie Bin Fires – Safety Series
As Halloween is quickly approaching and with bonfires being a major part of the festivities, we teamed up with Dublin Fire Brigade to bring you 4 Fire Safety videos about Wheelie Bin Fires.
The aim of these videos is to tell you what you should and should not do if you come across a Wheelie Bin Fire and how to prevent one from happening to you. The Fire Brigade were keen to advise people that most fires were caused by opportunistic arsons so taking your bins in and securing them is key to reducing the theft of bins. This is turn will reduce the number of Wheelie Bin Fires in your area.
We would encourage you to share these videos and show your kids as we want everyone to have an enjoyable and safe Halloween.

Greyhound Team Impact Day!
We would like to say a big thank you to the guys over at Volunteer Ireland for helping us to organize our first ever Team Impact Day last Friday!
It was very rewarding to be able to work with a local organisation like the Clondalkin Community Safety Forum to make a physical impact on the environment!
Feedback from our volunteers was excellent – if you are thinking about getting involved with an organisation like Volunteer Ireland, in either a corporate or personal capacity, we would highly recommend it!
Richard Costello from the Clondalkin Community Safety Forum said;
“Thanks to Volunteer Ireland for linking us up with staff from Greyhound. They really got stuck into the clean-up and the fence painting. They gave their time as part of their official Team Impact Day. It was a pleasure to meet them all. Everyone gave 110% all day! We hope to continue to develop a good local relationship with Greyhound and other businesses to provide volunteering support via Corporate Team Impact Days to the Community Safety Forum on some of it’s projects.”Volunteer Ireland is the national volunteer development agency and a support body for all local Volunteer Centres and Volunteering Information Services in Ireland. Safety Series: Overloaded Bins
Overloaded and overweight bins are a danger to you, to our collection teams and to the lifting equipment on our trucks and unfortunately they are more common than you might think!
Over the last 12 months we have recorded over 300,000 bins weighing over 40kg. Of these, more than 14,000 were over 80kg!
Let us put that into context for you…
Things that weigh 40kg
800,000 droplets of water
512,821 bees
12,800 tea bags
1,333 chess pieces
267 bananas
200 vinyl records
88 hard back books
71 basketballs
67 pairs of shoes
43 litres of milk
1 baby panda
If our collection agents have trouble moving a bin because it’s overweight or overloaded, there is a chance it may not be emptied.
If you are having trouble fitting all of your waste into your current bins, contact us as soon as possible. Our Customer Services team would be happy to advise you of your options for ordering additional bins and provide you with information on what goes into each bin.
If you would like to know how to reduce the amount of waste you produce, follow us online and keep in touch on social media. We regularly offer tips like this one, as well as updates, offers, news and competitions!
